Summer is here and it's time to plan
vacations, go golfing, spend time at the cottage, and work around the house. Like
most business people, I also like to spend some of time reviewing my marketing strategies,
checking the latest web tech news and trying out new tools and technologies. For
few years now, we have been running an online application
called SiteBuilder on our web server.
This program allows you to build a complete website in minutes.
Over the years,
we have been keeping up with all the version upgrades but really hadn't had the time
to review its newest features. I was reading an article today by ProgramFile about
Humanizing the 'Net and it talked about SitePal an application
that came built-in to our SiteBuilder program.
"Humanizing" - to portray or endow with human characteristics
or attributes; make human. This is the way they describe "talking characters" -
the latest craze on the "Net".
By bridging the gap between the 'Net and brick and mortar business, talking characters
have been successful in increasing repeat visitors to web sites and have been reported
to have improved sales by up to 50%. But they can do more. They answer frequently
asked questions, generate qualified leads for sales teams, inform site visitors
of specials and even act as virtual reporters.
So I decide to try it out as my example above shows. I was surprised how easy it
was. Choose and customize a character, create a scene, and finally, type your message.
The application converts the text to audio for you... so cool!
There are few down falls though, if you don't choose the right voice for the words
you use, the audio tends to be abit jumpy. Also, there is a cost for this feature.
SitePal charges $39.95 per month per website. For this price, I can create a total
of 11 scenes to place anywhere within my site.
Another cool feature, you can control its auto play so the viewer does not have
to listen each time the page opens. I set the one above to play twice over a certain
time period (hour, days, months, etc..).
